The Flower Mound Police Department reported a 3 percent drop in the town's crime rate from last year. The decrease follows a 12 percent drop between 2007-08. The department attributes the decrease to a variety of factors, such as the purchase of more technologically-advanced equipment, the implementation of the Citizen Volunteer Patrol program and the addition of more police officers. The town also released a report indicating a drop in response time. Priority I calls, which are calls for critical incidents in progress, decreased by an average of 12 seconds (4 minutes, 20 seconds to 4:08). Priority II calls, which are calls for incidents that have not yet occurred, such as a domestic violence call where there has been no violence, decreased by an average of 15 seconds.

Fire Station No. 4, which is expected to be 10,240 square feet, will be located at 4601 Bridlewood Blvd. Efforts for the new station began in 1992 when the council approved an ordinance to provide a fire station within the planned development. The issue was placed on a capital improvement plan and finally made its way to the forefront three years ago during a workshop. So it's essential to provide a place where we can have sufficient response times. The Town of Flower Mound has grown to over 60,000 residents and this fire station will help improve response times.
